With a decade of expertise in postharvest physiology and technology, his research focuses on sustainable packaging, bioactive edible coatings, natural plant extracts, and advanced technologies that enhance fruit quality, extend shelf life, and reduce food loss. A published author in postharvest science, Dr Kawhena holds a PhD in Horticultural Sciences (Postharvest Physiology and Technology) from Stellenbosch University. He is passionate about translating research-driven innovation into practical solutions that strengthen sustainability and resilience across the fresh produce value chain.
